Heard learned counsel for the petitioner.
The petitioner was a public servant and was convicted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and sentenced to undergo R.I. for six months and to pay a fine of Rs.1,000/- under Section 7 and S.I. for 1 year and to pay a fine of Rs.1,000/- under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) with default stipulations. The appeal filed by the petitioner was dismissed by the Appellate Court.
It is submitted that the petitioner is more than 70 years of age and is facing serious medical conditions. Further, the petitioner was on bail during the trial as well as during the appeal period.
Having regard to the above, the interlocutory application seeking exemption from surrendering is granted. The petitioner is granted exemption from surrendering till the next date of hearing.
