UPON hearing the counsel the Court made the following O R D E R
- 1 During the course of the hearing, Mr Gopal Sankaranarayanan, senior counsel appearing on behalf of the second and third respondents (the Commission of Inquiry and Mr Justice L Narasimha Reddy) has placed on the record a communication indicating that the third respondent does not intend to continue in pursuance of the notification appointing him as one-man Commission of Inquiry.
- 2 In view of this development, Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, senior counsel appearing on behalf of the State of Telangana, states that the State Government would issue a notification shortly substituting Mr Justice L Narasimha Reddy with an alternate appointment.
- 3 Moreover, it has been clarified by Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi that the expression "judicial" in the notification dated 14 March 2024 was intended to refer to the status of the one-man Commission as a former Judge and that the notification constituting the Commission of Inquiry would abide by the ambit of the Commissions of Inquiries Act 1952.
- 4 The Special Leave Petition is disposed of in the above terms since no other point is pressed.
- 5 Pending application, if any, stands disposed of.
