UPON hearing the counsel the Court made the following O R D E R
- 1 Procedural directions in these matters have been issued on 10 January 2023.
- 2 The title of the proceeding as agreed shall be:
"In Re: Section 6A of the Citizenship Act 1955."
- 3 The nodal counsel appointed by the previous order have prepared a common compilation. However, the common compilation needs to be brought in conformity with the Circular which was issued on 22 August 2023 to streamline the filing of soft copies of common compilations in Constitution Bench matters before this Court.
- 4 The nodal counsel shall take steps to ensure that the common compilations are brought in conformity with the Circular. A common index should accordingly be prepared for that purpose. Soft copies of the common compilations shall be prepared and filed on or before 3 October 2023.

Written submissions shall be filed on or before 10 October 2023.
- 5 During the course of the hearing, it has been agreed that the contesting parties shall consist of (i) those who are challenging the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act 1955 on the one hand; and (ii) those including the Union of India and the State of Assam who are supporting the validity of the provision.
- 6 The common compilations shall accordingly be prepared bifurcating those who seek to impugn the validity of the provision and those who support the provision.
- 7 At the commencement of the hearing of the matter, all the counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioners including the intervenors and the counsel appearing on behalf of the respondents shall provide to the Court a statement of the tentative time limit within which they seek to place their respective arguments.
- 8 List the Petitions for hearing on 17 October 2023.
