Heard the learned counsel appearing for the parties.

SLP(C) No. 8651/2020:

Respondent Nos. 1 to 3 filed a Writ Petition in the Karnataka High Court complaining of environmental clearance not being taken for expansion of the Highway between Belgaum to Panjim for a distance of 153.075 kms.

By an order dated 31.10.2019, the High Court directed the Union of India to file a statement relating to the environmental clearance which has been obtained and the period of the

2

environmental clearance. As the required affidavit was not filed, as directed, the High Court passed interim relief in terms of the prayer made in para 37. Aggrieved by the said order, the above Special Leave Petition has been filed.

Mr. K.K. Venugopal, learned Attorney General for India informed this Court that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF & CC) has already filed an affidavit on 09.03.2020 contending that no environmental clearance is required. As the response of MoEF & CC is on record, the High Court is requested to dispose of the Writ Petition at the earliest, preferably, within a period of two weeks as the expansion of a National Highway has been stalled for over a period of one year.

The Special Leave Petition is disposed of.

Pending applications also stand disposed of.
